I don't want to be seen slamming anyone here, I just don't want anyone else to get "surprised" when working with Duvall Diesel.
I was quoted a price by Lyndsay when I called in two days ago for some work on my truck. She was kind enough to squeeze me in on a last minute appointment today. However, when I paid the bill for the work performed it was $100.00 more than what I was quoted. When I questioned her about the large discrepancy she told me that when she quoted me the price over the phone she thought I had a different engine in my truck. OK, I can accept that, we all make mistakes in our busy life, however, when I don't even get an apology for the mistake, it rubs me the wrong way. In fact, she never said a word to me after she took my money. Never got to meet you Tim and probably never will as you lost me today as your costumer.
I can understand your frustration in that, I've been there and done that before with other companies, vendors and etc... I think if we put it on the table before work starts is a better way to go. Meaning, if I am the customer it's best to ask how much it will be before handing over the keys...
That's what I do anymore, however on quotes over the phone are not in stone, it's best to get it in paperwork, and you can hold the company to that if within means, unless the job requires more than just the normal.
Sorry to hear of your issue, but the title of this is "Use Caution" Would you mind elaborating a bit more on Use Caution for what? If you are directing this towards Duvall Diesel in a way of thwarting off new customers, it will not be allowed on here, we will stay positive and keep positive!
All the best,
Jim

Seems somewhat odd there to be posting this when they got you in at the last minute, I sense ungratefulness out of you. On the other hand, you should always confirm a price before letting a company does work for you.

If the price was going to be higher than the quote.....why didn't they contact Selkie? My regular mechanic always calls me if the price will be different. Sqeezing you in shouldn't mean you should accept a higher price with no comment. I have never used this shop, but I have used other places in Duvall and had good and bad service, but mostly higher prices than going elsewhere.

To Selkie Productions:
I’m sorry you felt that you were “surprised” but our prices are always discussed with customers whether it’s via the telephone or in-person so everyone is aware of what their Bill for Automotive Services are going to be. Lyndsay or myself always contact the customer(s) to let he/she know if prices are going to be higher than expected but for some reason it was overlooked for you.
The truck you called about and the truck you actually brought in were different and yes it was a different size engine which resulted in a higher bill than what you were quoted over the telephone. I apologize Lyndsay should have called you to let you know the price was going to be higher.
I agree that this issue was not handled properly and I apologize on behalf of Lyndsay to see that this doesn’t happen again.
Sorry I didn’t get to meet you as I’m not always able to meet all of my customers.
If you have any questions, please contactl Tim at Duvall Diesel & Automotive.

Removed, and thanks for coming to post on here Tim, I think it explains it all there. Actually, if you call of one truck and bring in another, I would think it's a catch22 that a customer tries to pull, not saying it's intentional. However I do have to speak my input here. I've been in the same situation in my boat, where I do a webdesign, then the customer wants a totally different look beyond their "original" scope of work and expect to pay the same for a much more complex design than their original... I think not, because that's when I call change orders in after the signing of the contract, which is stipulated in the contract when doing business with me.
So, my idea is that if you as a customer, call up a business, get a quote on a specific type of whatever it may be. Then bring in a totally different "whatever it may be." Then expect to pay more or even less. I know the old saying, "The customer is always right." Plays in effect all the time, but look at it like this, in the eyes of a business owner, you look like you are trying to pull a "fast one" if things are not apple for apple... Perhaps you don''t want it to look that way or have no meaning to, that's why a business has a right to refuse business with anyone they choose...
Moral of it all is this, let's all be upfront, get accurate quotes before handing keys over to your car, and have a total breakdown before the job starts of the TOTAL COST that you are going to be "signing" before leaving any automobile shop. I will contest to Tim and Duvall Diesel, when things have gotten to where I can't handle or do it myself, I always took it to Tim, and always can trust Duvall Diesel and their services.
On a positive note, everyone have a great day :) (Hope all this made sense)
All the best,
Jim
Sqeezing you in shouldn't mean you should accept a higher price with no comment.
This is not even close to why he was charged a higher price ;), it all falls under getting a quote on one size of a car, then bringing in another type... So I call that expect to be charged differently if you are quoting one then relying on the same price if you bring in another...
Think here for a minute, have you purchased tires? You think every tire "size" is priced the same? I think not ;)
All the best,
Jim

when I made my comment I wasnt aware that the truck quoted and the one brought in were different. But since it was different the person should have been called. Which the owner explains that it was an oversight....these things can happen, so no problem there.
I realize tires cost different prices because my cars always seem to require tires that cost about a $100.00 each.......
Well we are ONLY human, and if we didn't make mistakes in life, we would surely be pretty darn boring!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Jim
